Getting Through Today...

The days are getting long. I might even be looking forward, in a very, very small way, to school. I have lots of stuff that needs to be done but so much of it requires money or things we don't have. So I've been trying to get creative so that the days don't just drag on. I suppose creative is an overstatement. I've watched a few too many episodes of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and other mindless shows. I've also finished a book that should have taken someone like me a long time to finish and I did it in about a week total. I have been trying to be creative though, and amongst my failed attempts is a dress that I'm deeming hopeless. However, I did have what I would consider at least one success. It only made the cut because Collin helped me though, and I'm okay with that. I'm even okay with his anniversary gift being only half way done because I couldn't finish it without his help. I love that I need him. I think being the youngest has made me a lot less independent than I'd like to admit, but who better to rely on than Collin? Back to my one and only success story of the summer's attempt at making me creative. I made what I refer to as "Nursing Nicer". I don't really like the name but it's the alternatives that I dislike more. Not that the other names are bad, I just can't bring myself to say them. So I made a receiving blanket, nice, soft, and square (which means doable). Then I added a couple buttons to the thick seem at the top and with the help of my mom and Collin I made a strap with some appropriate looking button holes (the second time around) and turned my blanket into a nursing cover. The premise of course being that it can be used to nurse a little more modestly and then be used as a blanket all at the same time. It turned out nice. By nice I mean it wasn't a complete disaster. I gave it to a good friend who's about to have a baby girl and the people at the shower were shocked that I made it. I wasn't sure if that was good or bad but I took it as a compliment. Anyway, without further ado, here's the finished product.

I also liked playing around with the idea of making a purse. I've stepped away from the diaper bags for a while :). Maybe a purse is more in my reach.

OH MY GOSH!!! What a great idea! You should patten that and I really like the name too! DON'T give up on the diaper bag! You can make big money in the department! I have been on the lookout for a great diaper bag and so far nothing!!! Everything out there has a winnie the pooh or tinkerbell on it - Not that they are bad its just well... I want something a little more classy that doesn't cost $100.00. Hey I think I'm going to blog about my diaper bag drama. Seems like I have a lot to say in that department!

Ash, you are amazing! I think that might be the cutest thing I have ever seen. With Collin there to back you up there is nothing you can't do. Also like the different button holes. I can grow with the baby. Very thought out and adorable!

I love the colors, idea, and everything about this gift! I read your comments on my blog and just about died laughing at the taco bell comment. Insane. I really miss our summers together, but at least we can keep in contact through our blogs (and see how truly similar our lives are!)

You keep amazing me...what can't you do? If you're interested in making a purse, I've got to show you the one my daughter made for me. I watched her as she just began cutting and folding fabric--no pattern. I'm sure you could do it.

We need to get together. I have a lot of time on my hands too right now.
