So growing up one of my biggest pet peeves was when a bunch of girls were in a room and another girl walked in and the girls who were already in the room would stare at her, check her out, size her up and down and not even try to hide it! I seriously remember seeing girls' heads move up and down as they'd look at other girls from their shoes to their hair. Now keep in mind that what bothered me most wasn't necessarily that girls were judging each other (heaven knows I did the same thing far more times than I would ever like to admit) but that they didn't even try to hide it! I mean if you're gonna do it at least wait til' they're not facing you or maybe do it out of the corner of your eye but don't make it obvious!
So, I happen to have a similar habit. I am a HUGE people watcher. I like to think that I do it out of curiosity more than anything and I never really do it with judging in mind I more like the looking at somebody and trying to figure out what their house looks like or if they're married, maybe where they grew up, if their parents are divorced, if they like modern stuff or traditional stuff, if they're the only child or if they come from a large family, ya know stuff like that. I like to try and use the psychological techniques I've learned and apply them by simply looking at an individual, and at ASU I have ample opportunity to do this. Now, I've mentioned that I don't like the whole obvious checking out of people so I've created a way out of this! I wear my sunglasses which happen to be super tinted and that way I can stare right at people, into the depths of their soul, figuring out they're every quirk and qualm (and probably being completely off) and they never know!! It's fantastic. Every time I'm walking through campus I'm looking at the people I pass guessing about them and their behaviors and they don't have a clue. So a few days ago I was doing this very thing on my way from Music Therapy Rep. to Institute.
I passed a skater boy doing tricks and I was staring right at him thinking, "I bet he's been skating since he was like 5. Will we let our boys ride skateboards?".
He quickly passed and I came upon two gorgeous Indian girls and I'm staring right at them thinking "Does India allow girls to become models? If so those girls should totally go for it."
They pass and I come upon and couple not holding hands but holding each others waists and trying so hard to walk and not trip and I'm left thinking "I'm getting pretty close to the institute, I bet they just came from the tute, they're totally Mormon. I wonder if they're engaged".
And lastly I passed a kid that didn't have any outstanding features and so I was staring at him extra hard trying to read into something about him and his life but I was getting nothing except for a glare from him. I was totally confused thinking, "Why is he glaring at me? Do I have a controversial shirt on or something?" And then I started thinking about the other people I had passed and I realized they had also given me weird looks. So I started in with the process of elimination. It went something like this:
Pants? Check.
Shirt? Check.
Hair? No worse than any other day. Check.
Shoes? Normal. Check.
Sunglasses? Che....NO!! NO!! AND NO!!!!!!!!!
I had on my regular glasses, not my sun glasses!!! I was staring these people down!! Not just subtle glances, full blown I'm trying to read your soul STARES and they were looking right into my eyes seeing what I was doing probably thinking I was such a creep!! Oh man...lesson learned. I was trying to do the very thing that peeves me thinking that if nobody knew I was doing it, then it's not bad! But boy was I wrong and boy did I learn my lesson!!

So I think I saw/passed you this day. You had a very concentrated look on your face...you must have just reached the super cuddly mormon couple.
I do this all the time...it's hard not to.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! The Arizona sun must be getting to you if you don't even realize you left your shades at home! Very entertaining reading Ash!!!!!
Oh dear Ash. Only you girl! This is so funny. You crack me up.
That is an awesome story. For the record, you are no longer allowed to wear sunglasses around me. I want to know if you are "staring into the depths of my soul". I will totally let you...I just want to know that you are doing it.
Ha ha! Not the sunglasses! Well the good thing is you probably wont see these people ever again so stare um down!
oh no Ash!!! That is hilarious!!!
I'm always intimidated when I talk to someone with sunglasses on. I imagine they're rolling their eyes or looking at someone else. Now I know!
